SLIDELL, La. October 17, 2026.

A New Orleans police officer surrendered Saturday on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm following an alleged confrontation with his roommate in Slidell, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The agency identified the officer as Derrick Burmaster, 47, of Slidell, and described him as an NOPD patrol officer. Authorities allege he brandished a firearm issued by NOPD during an argument with his roommate in the early morning hours of October 2.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Persons Crimes Unit led to an arrest warrant on Friday, October 16, for one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Burmaster surrendered at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center the following morning and was booked on that charge, the agency said.

The charge is an allegation. Burmaster is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
