ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A warning coming out of Folsom is one that everyone across St. Tammany Parish needs to hear right now: please do not burn unless it is absolutely necessary.

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 5 is warning residents that extremely dry conditions are creating an increased risk for outdoor fires to spread quickly.

While there is currently no parishwide burn ban, that does not mean conditions are safe for burning.

Dry grass, leaves and vegetation can ignite quickly, and even a small fire can become difficult to control when wind is involved.

Fire District No. 5 is urging residents who choose to burn to follow parish burn regulations, remain with the fire at all times and keep a working water hose immediately available.

The message should not stop at Folsom. Residents throughout St. Tammany Parish should take these conditions seriously.

If you do not absolutely need to burn, please don’t.

One small fire can quickly become a much larger emergency.

APR•St Tammany encourages everyone across the parish to use extra caution until conditions improve.
