PEARL RIVER, La. — A multi-agency investigation into a recent suspected overdose in Pearl River led authorities to a suspected narcotics distributor in Orleans Parish, according to the Slidell Police Department.
The investigation was led by the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office Opioid Initiative and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Fentanyl Overdose Response Team. Authorities said investigators traced the suspected narcotics supply chain from Pearl River into Orleans Parish and took a suspect into custody in less than two weeks.
The Pearl River Police Department, Slidell Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Louisiana State Police, DEA and District Attorney’s Office participated in the investigation.
Slidell Police Chief Tommy Williams said the case demonstrates how local, state and federal agencies can combine their resources to identify people suspected of distributing dangerous narcotics.
The suspect faces multiple narcotics-related charges and is awaiting extradition to St. Tammany Parish. Officials did not release the suspect’s name, the specific charges or additional information about the suspected overdose.
The investigation remains active, and authorities said more information may be released later.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
