Expect the Police Department’s funding and staffing situation to be part of the conversation, including claims that PRPD has been defunded or underfunded.
But there is another side of the financial picture residents should keep in mind.
APR•St Tammany has received information alleging that multiple additional legal and employment related claims involving PRPD may be pending or forthcoming. APR is not presenting those allegations as fact until the supporting documentation is obtained.
Those matters are important because PRPD related lawsuits can create financial obligations for the Town of Pearl River or its insurer, even when the underlying allegations involve the Police Department.
And keep the size of the jurisdiction in perspective. PRPD serves a town covering roughly 3.5 square miles.
Tonight’s question should not simply be whether PRPD needs more money.
Residents should also be asking why more money is needed, where the money has gone and what additional PRPD related financial obligations the Town may still be facing.
