The 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office has released additional details following the guilty pleas of former E.E. Lyon Elementary administrators Lauryn Faciane and Tanya Barth.
District Attorney Collin Sims says two of the incidents involved serious sexual conduct occurring on the school campus between students who were 8 to 9 years old.
According to Sims, those incidents were not reported to the school resource officer, other law enforcement, or the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. Sims further stated that in one incident, the child’s parents were not notified that anything had occurred.
That information is significant because an attorney representing the administrators previously disputed the allegations and said an incident had been reported to the school resource officer.
Sims also said the administrators had previously received specific training addressing suspected child on child abuse and the requirement that it be reported.
“School personnel do not have the discretion to minimize such conduct, dismiss it because of the children’s ages, or determine that it does not warrant reporting,” Sims wrote.
Faciane pleaded guilty September 2 to two misdemeanor counts of failure to report abuse of children, while Barth pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count.
Court documents obtained by APR•St Tammany identify alleged incidents dating to September 2024, December 2025 and April 2026.
Because children are involved, APR•St Tammany will not publish their names or identifying information.
Sims credited the Covington Police Department investigation with bringing the failures to light and said he hopes the outcome leads to a reevaluation of reporting practices within the school system.
This case is no longer simply about allegations that administrators failed to report. Both administrators have now pleaded guilty, and the District Attorney has publicly provided new details about what authorities say went unreported.
