Ward 8 Constable Floyd Trascher announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for Chief of Police of the Town of Pearl River.
Trascher said the decision came after careful thought, prayer and conversations with members of the community. He explained that his campaign was never about obtaining a title, but about ensuring Pearl River has experienced, qualified and accountable leadership.
“As this election has progressed, I have recognized that another candidate possesses greater experience for the position of Chief of Police,” Trascher wrote. “My only objective has always been to see the most qualified person lead the department and protect the people of Pearl River.”
Trascher did not endorse or identify a specific candidate in his announcement.
With Trascher withdrawing, the race for Pearl River Chief of Police is now expected to continue between Steven Ball and John Polk.
Although he is ending his campaign for police chief, Trascher said he is not stepping away from public service. He plans to seek reelection as Ward 8 Constable.
“Serving as constable has been an honor, and I remain committed to being accessible, dependable, and responsive to the people I represent,” Trascher said.
Trascher thanked his family, friends, supporters and community members who encouraged his campaign and shared their concerns with him.
