ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit have arrested a Pearl River man in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon near Slidell.
Deputies and detectives were dispatched Monday, July 20, to a property in the 4300 block of Birch Street after receiving a report that a man had been shot.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the victim, who lives on the property, had reportedly become involved in an altercation with another man. The second man was later identified by investigators as 33-year-old Marcus Stewart.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Stewart allegedly produced a firearm during the altercation and shot the victim in the abdomen.
After the shooting, the victim reportedly left the property in his vehicle and drove to a nearby family member’s home. Someone at that residence called 911, and emergency medical personnel transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide an update on his condition in its announcement.
Investigators located Stewart later Monday evening at a residence in Pearl River. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
Stewart was booked on one count each of:
* Attempted second-degree murder
* Obstruction of justice
* Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
The investigation was handled by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
The charges are allegations. Stewart is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
