PEARL RIVER, La. — Pearl River Police Chief candidate Steven Ball is speaking out after what he says are attacks involving his family as the campaign for the town’s next chief of police continues.

In a statement posted publicly, Ball said questions about his law enforcement record, experience, qualifications and plans for the Pearl River Police Department are fair game during an election. He argued, however, that involving a candidate’s family crosses a line.

“You want to come after me and my record: BRING IT!” Ball wrote, adding that he is prepared to answer questions about his own background and qualifications.

Ball described the alleged attacks involving his family as “disgraceful and pathetic” and accused those responsible of focusing on personal attacks rather than the qualifications of the candidates.

Ball said he intends to continue campaigning on his experience, qualifications and plans for the department rather than targeting another candidate’s family.

“I am from Pearl River. This is MY home, and these are MY people,” Ball wrote.

The statement comes as the race for Pearl River Chief of Police continues ahead of the upcoming election.
