The National Hurricane Center is now watching an area of low pressure in the southwestern Gulf of America, along the coast of Mexico.

Environmental conditions are expected to be only marginally favorable, but the NHC says gradual development is possible. A tropical depression could form during the second half of this week as the system initially moves eastward before turning northward.

As of the 2:00 AM outlook:

🔸 Formation chance through 48 hours: 10 percent

🔸 Formation chance through 7 days: 50 percent

It is still too early to know exactly where this system will go or what impacts, if any, it could eventually bring to Louisiana. APR•St Tammany will continue watching the Gulf and posting updates as new information becomes available.

APR•St Tammany is not a meteorologist. Official tropical information comes from the National Hurricane Center.
