St. Tammany Parish voters have approved the renewal of the Sheriff’s Office law enforcement millage.
According to a press release from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the vote reflects community support for the men and women who answer calls for service, investigate crimes, patrol neighborhoods, operate the jail, dispatch emergency calls, and work daily to keep St. Tammany Parish safe.
Sheriff Bret Ibert thanked both voters and agency employees following the results.
“To the men and women of this agency, thank you,” Ibert said in the release. “This is your win. It belongs to the deputies, detectives, corrections employees, dispatchers and support staff who have never lost sight of the mission.”
Ibert said agency employees continued showing up and doing their jobs through what he described as challenging weeks, adding that the community showed up for them through the millage vote.
“We’re honored by the trust our citizens have shown us,” Ibert said. “That trust isn’t something we take for granted. We’ll continue working hard every day to earn it by serving this community with professionalism, integrity and dedication.”
The Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars while maintaining the level of service residents expect.
APR•St TAMMANY will continue following the Sheriff’s Office, the upcoming sheriff’s election, and how public tax dollars are used moving forward.
As always, election results are not final until certified by the Louisiana Secretary of State.
