ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — The National Weather Service has placed northern, southwestern and southeastern St. Tammany Parish under an Extreme Heat Warning from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat-index values as high as 115 degrees expected.
The warning includes communities such as Slidell, Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, Folsom and Bush. The NWS said dangerous heat and high humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Anyone working outside should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if someone is confused, loses consciousness or shows other signs of heat stroke.
