The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area in the southwestern Gulf of America where a broad area of low pressure could form over the next several days.

According to the 8 a.m. Sunday Tropical Weather Outlook, some slow development of the system will be possible as it drifts northward over the southwestern Gulf.

The National Hurricane Center currently gives the system a near zero percent chance of development during the next 48 hours and a 30 percent chance of development during the next seven days.

There is currently no organized tropical cyclone associated with the area and no immediate threat to Louisiana has been identified. With the system expected to drift northward, Gulf Coast residents should continue monitoring future updates as the forecast becomes clearer.

APR•St Tammany will continue following the system and provide updates if development chances increase or potential impacts to our area become clearer.

APR•St Tammany is not a meteorologist. Official tropical information should always come from the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service.
