SLIDELL, La. — The City of Slidell announced Wednesday that it finalized the sale of the city-owned business campus at 1010 Gause Boulevard to Textron Systems Corporation for $3.4 million.

The final paperwork was signed earlier in July, according to the city. Officials said the transaction ends the city’s ongoing maintenance expenses for the property and provides $3.4 million that can be reinvested in infrastructure improvements and other municipal priorities.

The campus was built during the early 1960s as NASA’s Eastern Operations Support Center, where it supported the nation’s early space program. It later housed the Defense Information Systems Agency before the federal government transferred the property to Slidell through a quitclaim donation in 1994. The city subsequently redeveloped it as a business complex.

Textron Systems has operated at the campus as a longtime tenant. The company said the purchase supports its continued investment in Slidell, including its local workforce and defense-related operations.

Mayor Randy Fandal described the purchase as a long-term investment in the city. Councilman Trey Brownfield, who the city said helped broker the agreement, said the proceeds give Slidell capital for projects across the city.
