AUGUST 14, 2026 | ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA. — Tracey Turgeau Powell will remain a candidate for Judge of the City Court of East St. Tammany following a legal challenge to her qualifications for the race.
The challenge questioned Powell’s eligibility to seek the judicial seat and was heard Friday, Aug. 14. The challenge was unsuccessful, allowing Powell to remain on the ballot and continue her campaign.
Powell qualified earlier this month for the Nov. 3, 2026 election for City Court of East St. Tammany, which covers Wards 8 and 9. Her campaign states that she previously served eight years as Justice of the Peace for Ward 8 and has more than 20 years of legal experience. (Tracey Powell for Judge)
The qualification challenge had placed uncertainty over whether Powell would be allowed to continue seeking the seat. With Friday’s decision, that question has now been resolved at the trial-court level, and her campaign will move forward.
APR•St Tammany will continue following the City Court judge race as the November election approaches.
